Was recommended to me by my previous employer. Was the resident computer geek on my nursing unit. Not looking for a new job or anything. Out of the blue, my boss says IT is looking for computer geeks with clinical experience. Fast forward a few months, I am now an Application Analyst.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•good insoles/other pain management for standing job?
11·1 month agoI know this doesn’t address the main problem, but I found my legs to be less fatigued after a 12 -hour nursing shift when wearing compression socks. I hope you find some relief.

3·2 months agoThis Too Shall Pass by OK Go. I listened to this song religiously every day on my way to clinicals in my final year of nursing school.

9·3 months agoCuddling with the pups
Floor lamp. Cheap, plug and play. It you get one with the “cone of shame” thing open toward the ceiling, should reflect plenty of light off the ceiling assuming it is a light color.
As a nurse, I find it hilarious.

Linux@lemmy.world•Mint is so much more usable than the last time I tried and I'm in loveEnglish
4·4 months agoI had been wanting to switch back to linux now that I don’t need specific windows programs anymore. Finally convinced myself to go for Pop_OS! After a few hours of messing with settings and apps that weren’t quite right, I decided to go back to linux mint as it worked well for me before. So happy I made the switch. Completely on linux now. Only wish I could convince my husband to us it. Maybe one day…

1·4 months agoRound 10±ish of Balder’s Gate 3. It is one of the only co-op/multiplayer games my husband enjoys, so we are always playing different characters, builds, alignments, story choices, routes. Started using some mods a few plays ago and it has brought some extra flair back into the game. Luckily we don’t play but once every other weekend so I don’t get burned out.
Alternate weekends/days I am still working my way through Clair Obscure Expedition 33. Really enjoying the storyline and music. Gameplay itself isn’t my favorite, but I like trying out new characters, builds, skills, combos as I work my way through exploring round one of this game. I am sure there will be at least one replay as I know there are things I have missed. I am not a true completionist, but I try to appreciate everything that has been built for the players to experience (unless it is truly not worth my time).

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Mattel introduces its first Barbie with Type 1 diabetesEnglish
32·5 months agoFrom the article:
The new Barbie wears continuous glucose monitor (CGM), a device that tracks blood sugar levels, on her arm — while holding a phone displaying an accompanying app. She also has an insulin pump attached to her waist. And the doll carries a blue purse that can be used to carry other essential supplies or snacks on the go.
The Barbie’s outfit is blue, too — with polka dots on a matching top and skirt set. Mattel says that this color and design are nods to symbols for diabetes awareness.
