Some 17 soldiers and five other people allegedly smuggled or used synthetic marijuana via military mail.
I have no idea how “big” drug busts on US bases need to be to be news worthy but the details of this bust seem underwhelming:
Joint raids by South Korean police and the US Army’s Criminal Investigation Division found 77g (2.7oz) of synthetic cannabis, more than 4kg of “mixed liquids” used for vaping and a total of $12,850 (£10,440) in cash at the 22 suspects’ homes.
I think it’s newsworthy that the host nation was involved rather than the US military handling it internally.
Why are they reporting on the cash bit?
So in each house, they found about $550?
What a fucking a joke South Korea.
They make it sound like it was some huge fentanyl bust when in reality we’re talking about synthetic weed.
That stuff is dangerous in its own right.
The danger of synthetic pot doesn’t even register compared to the danger of fentanyl.
I’m amazed Spice is still around. I don’t know why; I guess I just hadn’t seen it or heard or thought about it in years.
Same, but I get it, they don’t want to get popped on their drug test and sober life is boring
I bet it had a big comeback after Dune
Will they be trial by the Korean Government or the U.S military court?
Some were arrested by South Korean police, so they will likely face trials by South Korean courts. If we break laws in foreign countries, we’re still subject to punishment under them. Service members can and frequently are also held to account under the UCMJ and will likely have court martial as well. Have seen plenty of people get arrested for myriad crimes, and then get slapped with an NJP/court martial on top of it.
Lmao, they take this way too seriously. Imma send a nug to the Korean DEA tonight in honor of those brave soldiers.
