This seems to be almost all Sony’s doing, why do devs even need publishers? Is it a financing thing, cause publishers are usually ones fucking up stuff.
It’s exactly a money thing.
Publishers are usually responsible for all the shit people get angry about, but they’re also footing the bill to build the thing years ahead of time.
I feel like an outlier here, but this doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve been linking accounts across platform for probably decades. Maybe I would find it slightly annoying if I only had a PC account.
There are a lot of complaints about this, but the two most legitimate ones are:
- PSN accounts are not available in every region that Steam allowed Helldivers 2 to be sold in, so some people are going to lose access to a game they’ve paid for and have been playing for months
- Sony has a bad track record with protecting users’ data, and many people do not want to give Sony more access to their PII
Yea and that first one should be enough to require Sony to issue refunds to those impacted. The second is personal choice and opinion I guess, if you worry about those things then this is a problem.
I hate it because it was a bait and switch. I didn’t have to and now they’ve altered the deal after I’m wayyyyyyyyyyyyy past the refund period. If it wasn’t gonna be optional, don’t let me play in the first place.
Should be illegal to do this. Bait and switch is something we also see with big tech a lot, where they change their user agreements constantly so they can add data tracking and remove any shred of privacy.
What I’m most annoyed about is that they won’t let me unlock my account, due to not having the serial number from my PlayStation from over a decade ago, nor my credit card number from the same time period. So I’ve got to change my name, and create a new account to continue playing the game.
That’s a huge piss off.
Its too late for you in this case but as a tip for anyone else, for most people using their camera to take a picture of their console serial number now will mean they have a cloud backed up picture of it available later if its ever needed for account recovery or insurance purposes.
Until Google or Apple discontinues that service
Remember, the cloud is just someone else’s computer. Be the cloud yourself. Tools like Immich are free, open source, and work nearly identical to Google photos.
Its true that its someone else’s server but in my case I get phone and photo backups for au$25/year (approx. us$16.50 or €15).
I manage servers for a living but for my personal data I am happy to pay a relatively small fee for the convenience of having someone else deal with patching, backups, and hardware lifecycles.
I’m glad there are self hosted solutions but its a bit like home bread baking, an interesting hobby for people who are interested or have unique needs - but there are also serviceable options available for purchase at reasonable prices.
Empathy is understanding and commiserating with others negatively impacted by an issue, even if it doesn’t affect you personally.
