… “starting” feels like a horrible word to use in this context, in my humble opinion. Not as bad as not thinking about it tho.

You are right, but I always risk it (restore points work most of the time anyway).
Oh yeah, deleting partition tables always felt a bit like (mini) scorched earth past-denying genocide. Gone but not forgotten. But also mostly forgotten. Nevertheless you legacy will live onwards through volume labels that I always use.
Oh yeah, I’ve had that happen to me (only the one time, like a decade ago), once I realized what gives I solved it easily with GParted ‘repair’ or something like that (iirc?).
Edit: ohh, I think it was a (full distro) live-boot CD that I used.
Just hold the power button until it gets quiet.
… shush, don’t fight it, it will be over soon.
I wish them nicely quiet Red Plus drives would go to to 20 or 22TB.
Lol, mooD, the secret cow level of Doom :D
… in the post-late-stage-capitalism you won’t have a choice, death is not an excuse to stop working, now get back to the mines, data fields, and “AI simulators”!
Maybe even wiggle my hard drive writing heads for that sweet sound.
And ofc, as a god-given/demanded right, run Doom.
I find it very addictive actually, at least the endless scrolling lasts a bit longer than in Reddit, tho there is still more top stuff on Reddit (bcs there is more content that gets distilled into good content, whereas I feel like on average I see better content on Lemmy).
Tho if I need some technical review of some obscure product, Reddit is still where I look it up.
“Your wouldn’t download a communism”
A would download & 3D print both communism & Disney, then watch them fight
Sure, but when the risks the capital takes are so low & long-term as in showbusiness (everything got consolidated af), and the payouts so huge compared to cost (especially excluding like top 5 most payed ppl on the project) … you might think that the negotiations weren’t made fairly on equal grounds.
Otherwise, if there were meaningful risks, the corps would have no problem sharing (=lowering) that risk at least with immediate stakeholders/workers. I bet most writers would take minimal or no pay to get in on the profits (that can last decades). Most writers work on several projects a year so so if business risks would be actually important, lowering them via lower initial costs for shared uncertain future profits would be a win-win scenario.
Bcs taking someone’s work & capitalize on it just because the original worker didn’t have the means to do so … some people might see as immoral in a lot of cases.
One of the cornerstones of capitalism tho.
Also note the huge difference scales, bcs it matters a lot: if you sell a peace of tech, or business, or property at fair price (like dcf or whatever), then you already got compensated justly or as close to that as possible with the information available at the time. But if you were forced to sell at an arbitrary fixed rate bcs the buyer forced you into it from their position of power over you (and made a huge profit in a short amount of time from that) … you might feel different about the situation.
Like, even your, if you would be able to get secondly payouts, would you not collect them?
Also, if the negotiations & payout would be fair, the strike would not make financial sense for any party, or have an effect on the business.
Who tf just read this comment out loud?? I clearly heard it!
Yeah, this is like the start of the second act, none of this is surprising or not as discussed before … but at least the overwhelmingly sad second act will be fairly short - the last act however, with no fat lady to sing, will be a long and painful few hundred million years.
Soon we will be telling next gen peeps (mutant descendants) how ‘back in our day’ we could walk outside, not pay a daily air allowance to the regional megacorp, and even see animals and plants irl.
But at least Soylent Green will be available in several flavors so that is something to look forward to …
At least some select few got briefly rich by capitalizing on destruction of all the things … I was told that was always the goal, the very best of mankind, the one true god.
Born too early to not give a fuck, born too late to have (or want) a decent life expectancy, but born just in time to witness the global biodiversity collapse at the start of a super fast mass extinction event.
I feel attacked and I don’t even use Arch btw
Price of gas is not the cost of gas.
It should include a way of getting the gases back into non-gas form and to reverse/mitigate any damages caused in the process. And the same for all of the supply chains (for gas and electricity, and any product really), can’t produce that much waste on a finite planet & just forget about it if there are no (complete, non-bs) recycling processes, natural or man-made.
Thats why plastic very much isn’t cost-efficient, it’s just cheap bcs legislators allow it to be.
Wow, wtf, that’s crazy.
