You know, i do actually very often concur with these kinds of content, like the ones saying billionaires are leaches on society and governments are often used as a weapon to protect the ruling classes.

But man… when i come to lemmy i kinda want to only see memes, and funny stuff… even communities that are not niches to political content get political way too often. Like gotdammit, when i get to c/comics i just want to see funny drawings, i’m way too tired to want to see your lame class war comic…

Is that a feeling i’m the only one feeling?

edit: i think what makes it worse is that very often they’re not even funny, just literal propaganda, “good guy propaganda”, maybe, but still propaganda

edit n2: edited title and body slightly to be “open ended” on mod’s request

I’m quite liberal, but holy shit their views on guns are ignorant. “We only want the cops and rich people armed!” The fuck?!

Why do they think the billionaire owned media bangs so hard against AR-15s? Ya know, the most effective antipersonnel rifle in existence? Because they know we can fight back. Remember that nutcase shooter in Maine? And not a word on the weapon used. Because it was an AR-10, and nobody knows what the fuck that is.

If you guys think the cops are bad now, imagine if they had zero fear we could shoot back. People forget, guns are as much, or more, of a deterrence than a weapon. LOL, there was a guy in the woods last week that would have happily beat my ass if I was open carrying. He was about to choke himself trying to be civil and polite.

Gays, blacks and women got the fucking memo, largest gun buying demographic for years. Suburban white boys haven’t figured it out yet. But they’re happy to post cute guillotine memes all day long.

This is a very American viewpoint. I can kinda’ understand why some people think that the solution to there being too many guns is “get more guns”, but most of the rest of the developed world thinks it’s bizarre.

I also recall reading a study that a gun in the home is more likely to be used on someone who lives in the home than an intruder.

Let’s be real. If the police start shooting at a civilian, good luck to the civilian who shoots back. More guns in the hands of the public is probably a big part of why American cops are so jumpy. When any interaction can turn into a shootout, and the police union will have their back no matter what they do…what do you expect to happen?

Note that I’m not defending police (or their unions) in the slightest. What I’m defending is anti-gun rhetoric.

(Yes, there are needs for guns. But American citizens defending themselves from police, spree shooters, and the US military is rarely more than a fantasy)
