Edit - I said “site” because I didn’t know how to even describe whatever this is

Lemmy’s core development team are communists, of a very bizarre and inconsistent type that is openly or semi-openly in favor of massive command-economy-capitalist countries like China and Russia even when they are engaged in imperialist conduct. They’re weird. Idk what’s up with it. A lot of the core historical instances still have that mindset and are sometimes so obnoxious about demanding that everyone else needs to also that they are banned from the more recent more mainstream-thinking instances.

Generalizations are tough but I think it’s safe to say that 90% of everyone else on Lemmy is some variety of vague-leftist roughly in the mold of Bernie Sanders, which depending on your personal Overton window you may define anywhere from “disgusting liberal who betrayed the movement by voting for Kamala Harris” to “Communist.”

    Hope this helps

We’re an anarcho-syndicalist community. We take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week. But all the decision of that officer have to be ratified at a special biweekly meeting. By a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs.

Strange developers lying on GitHub distributing software is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical coding ceremony.

There’s a lot of state sponsored propaganda from right wing, authoritarian countries that pay lip-service to popular communist ideas to keep the dictator in power.

A lot of the noise comes from just a few of the users, so for the moment its easy enough to just block them all.

You’ll need to be more specific I’m afraid. Lemmy isn’t a single site, but rather a bunch of sites all talking to one another in the same “language”.

Is your homeserver, lemm.ee communist? No clue. I do know lemmygrad.ml is. My homeserver, lemmy.sdf.org, leans from libertarian to liberal to marxist depending on the particular subject or user.

    Each cat their own rat.

Yes in the sense that mostly the communists inhabit it. No in the sense that, because it is decentralised, no one can force you do to a particular thing if you host your own instance

So in that way if I get banned from one instance then I can make a new account in some instance too?

I’m new here so I don’t know much about these

Yes. You can always create a new account on a different instance.

Think of federated services (namely lemmy) like a phone carrier. There’s a bunch of them, and you can call numbers on other networks easily, as they speak a common protocol. You (or your carrier) can always block either individual numbers, or entire carries. The thing here is, being a carrier (an instance) of lemmy is somewhat easy to do, and you can always switch carriers based on their moderation policies.

Hope this is a decent explanation.

Also, tip, pretty sure that in the default web interface there is a toggle to deactivate bot posts. These bots are often just reposting what is on Reddit to try to stuff lemmy with content, but I tend to leave them deactivated. Also, never forget that the best thing after staying in a pit like this, is to touch a bit of grass ;P

Mostly just liberal/social democrat with a sizeable and vocal minority of socialists and communists.

Generally, the American vision of “left”, or European center and left.

I think the reason you dont understand many comments in this thread is because you dont seem to know what a “communist” it. People are answering your question based on the official definition, but you are going by a gut feeling that probably springs form propaganda and biases in your community. I encourage you to read up on communism if you really want to know.
If youre just here to pick fights with no knowledge to back up your claims, youre on the right track.

This is almost like asking if all social media sites are communist because reddit has a communism subreddit. (More accurate to say the question would be like asking if all phpbb are communist because theres a communist board or two out there, but idk if the general pop even knows what a php board is anymore)
