I have trouble with using tone in my words but not interpreting tone from others’ words. Weird, isn’t it?

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•J.D. Vance, Not That One, Gets 2 Years in Prison for Threatening the Vice President
211·4 days agoit is my personal opinion that the relevant law should be abolished, but since 1917 it’s been a felony to threaten bodily harm or kidnapping of those within the presidential line of succession, which does not include the mayor of new york city unless he decides to run for the presidential ticket or marry and become trump’s immediate family.
*trump was on the verge of being sentenced for threatening to hang mike pence until he won the election.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an album with a completely unique sound
7·10 days agoRadiohead—Amnesiac (especially the B-sides) Mr. Bungle—California ミラクルミュージカル—Hawaii: Part II (strongly related to Tally Hall, which is famous for their hit debut Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum) Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE (my preferred recording of this legendary unfinished album for its complete orchestration, but I very much get the argument that it just doesn’t sound right without the Beach Boys’ voices, so I also recommend giving the Dae Lime mix a try for its combination of original and deepfaked vocals)

7·15 days agois there any reason to suspect foul play with Swartz? his life was upended through facing the lawfare of “$1 million in fines, 35 years in prison, asset forfeiture, restitution, and supervised release” he could only get rid of by effectively renouncing his beliefs.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some things America has lied about in the history books but the world accepts?
7·21 days agothat is covered in the history books tho? it’s cited as the biggest fault of the johnson administration, the impetus for the war powers act, an entry point to introducing the topic of counterculture in the textbook (flower power, anti-war, peace sign, Kent State…), and the progenitor of distrust in the government, after all

The Louisville Democratic Party responded on X: “We are here for this energy. Kentucky, put our primary May 19, 2026 and Election Day, November 3, 2026 in your calendar for our next elections!”
Journalist Caitlin Huey-Burns wrote on X: “This is a good public service announcement.”
George Conway, a former Republican lawyer, responded: “There is a distinct possibility that some people are too stupid to participate in a democracy.”
