  • Another option is virtualization.

Separate your sharing server from your remote access server, then have them each connect to a different VPN

This is how I do it.

I have several containers and a couple of VMs running on my one server. My router is also currently virtualized (OpnSense running in a Proxmox VM, works great) and it connects to tailscale and uses subnet routing to allow my LAN devices to be accessed from outside my home without putting them directly on the Internet.

Meanwhile, I have two more VPNs set up for two different sharing servers. All on one physical machine.

  • TS works better for me than ZT. I started with ZT first, and had random access issues between my android phone, my VPS, and all my local devices.

The local devices could all ping each other’s Zerotier IP addresses, but the vps and phone had issues pinging them, but not each other.

Meanwhile, tailscale is working fine, and I’ve even set up subnet routing so I only need it on my phone, my VPS, and my OpnSense system.

With Zerotier, I couldn’t get routing to work at all.

  • Uh.

I drove semi trucks in the US for years…

You’d better either double clutch or float those gears, because if you don’t, you’re destroying your clutch brake, which means you’ll have trouble getting it into gear from a dead stop. That applies for both upshifts and downshifts.

Ever sit next to an old truck or bus and hear them grinding gears to get into gear?

That’s due to the clutch brake failing to stop the flywheel.

All semi trucks in the US use synchro-less manual transmissions.

When shifting a syncro-less transmission, YOU are the synchro.

The clutch in these trucks has 2 positions. You either just barely engage the clutch enough to break contact, or you depress it fully to engage the clutch brake and (attempt to) stop the flywheel from spinning.

If you do the second one while shifting a moving vehicle, you’re causing undue wear and tear on the aforementioned clutch brake.

Did you even read the link? You don’t need it on every device. It’s not really that difficult to understand.

I AM A 48 YEAR OLD FORMER FUCKING TRUCK DRIVER FOR FUCKS SAKE, and yet, I still managed to set up tailscale on my phone and a computer, and then access my stuff that ISNT running tailscale in any way, shape or form, from my phone, simply because I decided to figure it the fuck out.

    Stop being so damned lazy.

I am so fucking tired of this “cater to the lowest common denominator” bullshit.
