Not a whole lot, but it’s better than just my subbed feed. (Mostly niche interests far from any sort of critical mass.)

This is an interesting move. My takeaway from Freedom was that it was the most Seed thing ever (for good or ill), and a nice send off for CE. I’m not sure how they can top it with a prequel, but I’m willing to give it a shot. Metaverse aside, Gundam has been on a freaking roll.
Wonder how long they’ll stay “friends” once they’re locked in with the obnoxious rich fucks 24/7/365.
Many instances have domain names that look invalid and/or like scam sites to non-techies. Dot world? Dot social? Dot [obscure country TLD]? There’s also no guarantees that the domain will indicate that it’s a Lemmy site. Both of these become problematic with sharing, as the default (? been a while since I’ve used the web interface) share function links to the poster’s instance and not the community instance. A year and a half ago, the shared links section in my messenger was mostly a Reddit flood. Today, it looks like someone spilled alphabet soup.
For seeing, duh.
My mom was disappointed when I said I didn’t want any of my dad’s things when he died last year. Hell, I hated turning some of it down. And I’m not taking any of her stuff, either. I’m really not into the “50+ years of cigarettes” aesthetic.
Hard to avoid the local cable monopoly for internet.
I just use “spouse” most of the time. We’re not married. Fucks given: 0
Agreed. Anyone with half a brain knows that it’s going to be Canada that takes us into WW3. With the world distracted by all of the other hostile land grabs, Canada will seize the initiative and take Greenland since it’s likely to live up to its namesake soon. This will set off Britain’s alarm bells, and they’ll take Iceland as a hedge against Canuck imperialism. And once Britain is distracted enough, Argentina will be all, “fucking finally” and take the Falklands. Never one to miss an opportunity for oil, the US will decide to preemptively seize Antarctica before the Argentines can expand further… just in time for a few ice shelves to break off and become free-floating. And while the sacrifice of Florida, the Mississippi Delta, and about half of New Jersey will be deemed worth it from the US perspective, the sea level rise will make the previous fighting over islands seem pointless.
All of this is ,of course, contingent on no one being idiotic/spiteful/ignorantly self-righteous enough to launch a nuke. That changes the calculus enough that no mere shitposter doing a prolonged ass-pull could realistically predict beyond “so much for mutually assured destruction.”

Good job Newsweek, always on the ball.
Doubtful. Dude ain’t got no ups.
Where do pieces end and particles begin?

…huh. I wonder if this means I should play the lottery, or if my cosmic coincidence currency has already been consumed lol.
You’re not wrong 😅 But as far as I’m concerned there’s no expiration date on literature. Somewhere, someone is reading the books for the first time. The odds of them also being on Lemmy are astronomically small. But it was enough of an “oh shit” moment IMO that it was worth the half-second it took to hit the spoiler button.
It was also the moment that jolted me out of whatever enjoyment I had been getting out of The Last Battle. Whenever I would do a re-read, things really slowed down for Silver Chair and Horse And His Boy, picked back up wonderfully for Magician’s Nephew, then Last Battle would ham-fist its way through to the end, with Furry Jesus reveling with his most devout disciples. Just eye-rolling stuff.
The Wardrobe movie from a while back was a surprisingly good adaptation, and as the series went on (and then stalled out after Dawn Treader) I was worried about the actors literally aging out of being able to play the roles. Thinking back, it was probably for the best that it ended there.
It will be the fault of The Other. The Other is evil. The Other is ruthless. The Other is mixing drag queen and trans DNA in your child’s classroom using your fine silver and selling it to power the space lasers. Lies are the gift that keeps on giving.
