it’s theft
So is all the papers, all the conversations in the internet, all the code etc. So what? Nobody will stop the AI train. You would need Butlerian Jihad type of event to make it happen. In case of any won class action, the repayments would be so laughable nobody would even apply.
Deepseek
Deepseek didn’t opensource any proprietary AIs corporations do. I’m talking about forcing OpenAI to opensource all of their AI type of event, or close the company if they don’t comply.
betting on the future
Ok, new AI model drops, it’s opensource, I download it and run on my rack. Where profits?
Forced opensourcing would totally destroy the profits, cause you spend money on research and then you opensource, so anyone can just grab your model and don’t pay you a cent. Where would the profits come from?
IP of writers
I mean yes, and? AI is still shitty at creative writing. Unlike with images, it’s not like people oneshot a decent book.
give it to the rich
We should push to make high-vram devices accessible. This is literally about means of production - we should fight for equal access. Regulation is the reverse of that, give those megacorps the unique ability to run it because others are too stupid to control it.
OpenAI
They were the most notorious proponents of the regulations. Lots of talks with openai devs where they just doomsay about the dangers of AGI, and how it must be top secret controlled by govs.
LLM aren’t good at math at all. They know the formulas, but they aren’t built to do math. They are built to predict the next syllable in the stream of thought.
What are they good for? When you need to generate lots of things and it’s faster to check after it rather than do it yourself.
Like you could’ve asked to generate a python app that solves your math problem, you would be able to doublecheck the correctness of the code and run it, knowing that the answer is predictably good.
Regulate? This is what lead AI companies are pushing for, they would pass the bureaucracy but not the competitors.
The shit just needs to be forced to opensource. If you steal the content from entire world to build a thinking machine - give back to the world.
This would also crash the bubble and would slow down any of the most unethical for-profits.

Except that, every hit like that is another cut that cripples economy. The most effective action of “Just Stop Oil” campaign by so far.

It’s not 1k drones a day and I doubt it ever will be. Currently they do 500 but that’s not daily, that’s accumulation/discharge. And Ukraine is taking down the most of them - which still means like 10-20 hit the targets per wave.
But I mean, it’s not one-sided thing and stuff burns in russia too. Ukrainian long-range capabilities are better than ever. So many events that would sound groundbreaking in 2022 are just another Friday.
Mika@sopuli.xyzto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•These are not serious peace terms. This is a 1,000 year enslavement project. And a historic opporutnity to neuter Russia's malign tendencies. Might be best to stall and keep bleeding them.5·3 days agoCorrect on threat assessment, but it’s not about drone attacks only. Ukraine is better at finding out some new solutions (action from businesses + volunteers + low rank combatants), russia is better at copying success and scaling on a system level (government vertical works faster).
Recent success on the battlefield is them scaling anti-pilot measures. Recent success denial is collaboration between the best Ukrainian battalions.
But I disagree on economic assessment. Point of economy getting shredded is close. I’d say something is highly likely to happen in a span of a year. It would be faster if USA did play their role and sanction oil/gas, like the thing they stated to with India (which EU did, but USA frozen for now).
After all, russia isn’t limitless. It’s their core strategy to make themselves look like so. They had deep reserves of artillery, tanks, currency+gold, aviation, fleet - all of this is getting thinner. Like they rarely use tanks today. But you can’t do the same with money.

russia would need to end the war fairy soon, but at this point in time they still feel like they can do more, thus negotiations are delayed and met with unserious demands – many of which Trump just didn’t understand lmao, like this whole discussion about EU troops in Ukraine after ceasefire, but russia meant “russian & chinese troops, and only if russia agrees” kind of deal, mentioning old 2022 “negotiations”.
Turning down people isn’t something bad. It’s worse to end up with someone who don’t fit.
Friendzone though is most often just not having guts to say that loud and clear.

I just find it funny that I know the guy because of his shit taste in books, I imagine he’s ok otherwise.

Mika@sopuli.xyztoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•you ignore it until you can't anymoreEnglish6·12 days agoThe problem is deeper: I doubt any single government can stop the climate change, and any international agreements are doomed to fail because someone would say they are getting the short end of the stick with green stuff and nothing in return. Plus there would be no accountability for not meeting the targets.

Open-source AIs are there and they are very much competitive with proprietary solutions.

Tap for spoiler
The evil mage, who we hunt the whole game, just escapes from the hero character during the cutscene through the time portal that sends him back, where he understands what he have done, becomes the white mage and summons the hero character (as the game does at the beginning).
Might sound like an interesting plot but I was really annoyed the game ended up without giving me the ability to slap the bastard.
