For me: the Out Run OST. Everyone listens to and praises Nintendo OSTs or Square Enix, but Out Run is something else. I have rarely listened to video game music that catchy.
Rock n’ Roll Racing.
While not a racing game in the traditional sense, the soundtrack for I Am Your Beast is what cocaine sounds like. Listen to Negative Time without vibing, I bet you can’t.
Rocket Leagues first OST. The following seasons had some good stuff as well, but man, 2015s Rocket League featured a string of bangers!
og wipeout
ez
NFS underground or most wanted.
I wouldn’t call them my favourites, but I will call them a perfect fit. The licensed soundtrack in MW has exactly the correct feel for the game.
Prostreet too
I also like NFS Carbon to be honest.
Burnout 3
Sonic R
It’s a hill I’m willing to die on.Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge and Project Gotham Racing.
Flatout: Ultimate Carnage or Need For Speed: Underground
Yep Underground
My shortlist is probably WipEout Pulse (I love how that entire series feels like a game made out of electronic music, the same way Doom is made out of metal), WipEout 2048 (for the same reason, but I played it even more), Forza Motorsport 2 (cuz it had a huge influence on my taste at a very young age), and then maybe Gran Turismo 5?
I don’t even like that genre of music much, but it is so perfect for Wipeout and the selection is excellent
MX Vs. ATV Unleashed
Something about the early 2000s alt and buttrock that just does it for me.
Does SSX count as a racing game?
If so, SSX was huge for my prepubescent self.
F-Zero GX, hands down. Nothing else is even close.
Hell yeah, F-Zero.
It’s not a car racing game, but SSX 3 had such a great soundtrack. It’s hard to find nowadays.
Ridge Racer Type 4 isn’t here?
Boo.
