The coroner’s new report does nothing to dispel the notion that Barnett took his own life. Its verdict is that his “cause of death was determined to be: Gunshot Wound of the Head” and that the “manner of death is best deemed” as suicide.

What strange phrasing. Were people really looking for reasons to rule out suicide? What we’re actually looking for is evidence to rule out causes other than suicide.

Also, what’s up with the bizzare incomplete quotations? Is the “as suicide” bit an accurate representation of the quoted source material?

If anything this makes me question gizmodo’s integrity more than dispel any myths.

When the subject is a whistleblower testifying against a massive corporation and was claimed to have said “If anything happens to me, it’s not suicide.” while the apparent cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, yeah. I’d say that would make people suspicious and interested if the medical examiner found anything to indicate it was something other than suicide.

“As suicide” isn’t in quotation marks, so it isn’t a quote. Anything that is in quotation marks is allegedly a direct quote, while anything outside of quotation marks but added for flow, like as suicide, is allegedly paraphrasing.

The lede is in paragraph four. What the fuck. Why did I have to read three meaningless paragraphs to get to the headline.

You think you got it bad? I had to come in this comment sexton section to find the answer 4 comments down! If you read it, why didn’t you put it in your comment?

      J/k. I’m just a lazy fuck.

Sadly, this was the only article I saw today on the topic. It is weird that it’s buried. I mean… isn’t “don’t burry the lede” the first principle of journalism?

Not anymore. Not when your revenue is dependent on people seeing ads. The further they scroll, the more ads they see. So they shove a bunch of garbage fluff in the first few paragraphs to keep people scrolling.

He exited the hotel at 2037 hours. At 2045 hours, his truck was observed backing into the parking space where it was later discovered. Video surveillance recordings continuously record his vehicle. Throughout the review of surveillance video spanning the evening of March 8th through the morning of March 9th, from the time the vehicle was backed into the parking space until the Charleston Fire Department gained entry to the vehicle, no other individuals were seen entering or exiting Mr. Barnett’s vehicle. At no time did anyone engage or try to make contact with Mr. Barnett.

Personally, I wouldn’t back into a parking space if I was gonna kill myself. I only back in to spots if I’m leaving in a hurry.

Sounds like you’re cherry-picking evidence. Plenty of reasons to back in though. And all the evidence points to the fact that he ended his own life, sadly.
