It’s called dynamic compression, often labeled as night mode. Makes quiet stuff louder and loud stuff more quiet. My AVR has it as a feature and probably most TVs as well.

Damarus@feddit.orgto Technology@lemmy.world•The Windows Subsystem for Linux is now open source.English151·19 days agoI don’t think that, as Microsoft hasn’t done a lot (any?) of that stuff in recent years. It’s good to be cautious but really what is the problem with opening the source for something that already existed for a while and is embraced by many?
Damarus@feddit.orgto Technology@lemmy.world•The Windows Subsystem for Linux is now open source.English9·19 days agoWSL allows me to develop in a Linux environment while still enjoying my very custom Windows setup and programs that I am used to. So no, WSL did not make me choose a side, but instead helps me to get the best of both worlds at once.

Damarus@feddit.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something people use the internet for that can be done just as easily offline?7·1 month agoIt’s just a search bar located in the start menu and on the task bar, that combines local search with web results. For pro users it is pretty terrible, but I wouldn’t be surprised if many regular users like it. You still have a normal local file search from within the file explorer.
Damarus@feddit.orgto Games@sh.itjust.works•The Betrayal of Limited Run Games: What They Don't Want You to SeeEnglish1·2 months agoThat would be the optimal case, however in reality, limited runs and other marketing tactics heavily manipulate people into buying overpriced stuff they don’t need. I think it’s unfair to put all the responsibility of deciding what acceptable prices are on the buyer, when companies spend billions in researching marketing tactics. That’s why there needs to be more guard rails coming from governments, so that consumers can’t be abused as much.
