Uh, what? Are you defending companies stealing gift card money from people because it’s a “weird account on the books”?

No, not everything is brassica.
But everything that isn’t brassica is cucurbita.
People who don’t do any of those actions are not active users. Lurkers are not active by definition.
They shouldn’t be included in the active user count, because they’re not contributing any activity.
It’s just a stupid made up rule to cover their asses in the event of liability.

It’s funny because a principle actually is a dollar figure when talking about finances.
How much entertainment do you need while driving? Can’t you just plug your phone in for some music?
Do you really need a maps app built into your car when you already have one on your phone?
I just can’t see a reasonable use for an infotainment system that isn’t already taken care of perfectly by the device I already have.
The car experience
The car experience is driving.
We don’t need 6 different fuel efficiency visualizations and we sure as fuck don’t need games or videos in the car.
If the companies had to pay per bottle, do you really think they’d still be using single use packaging like that?
They’d install refill stations in stores and sell you a reusable bottle that you can fill up from their metered tap at the refill station.
Companies created the problem of single use packaging; the onus is not on individuals to solve a problem created by companies.
