I updated all of the mods I wanted for the PC version of the game while I wait for the Switch update in a few days. Working towards the Community Center now, hoping to complete it in year 1 like I usually do.

I have experience with all of those, and have played with all of them together at one point or another.

Stability is not a huge issue for most Stardew mods. In my experience, I have only had crashes if the mod was for a different game version, or if it was a mod that added in a new machine and it was missing another base mod to function. Anything that expands the world should be fine as long as you have added any mods they require to work.

Any mod that expands the minecarts has the potential to get a bit weird, but Integrated Minecarts is the best of them that I have used, so you should be okay.

Stardew Valley Expanded, while a popular mod, may not be compatible with other mods as there are several mod authors who would prefer to not work with that author or anything they make. Iirc, this is due to them having harassed other mod authors they accused of stealing concepts, as well as a lot of people not liking the fact that the author added in weird dialogue about sexual assault for one of the characters and had no warning of way to avoid it. I personally don’t use it for these reasons, but I don’t personally think there’s anything wrong with using it, just be aware that it will have more compatibility issues than most others.

Removing almost any mod mid game will cause issues of varying degrees, since it will cause the game to try to load assets in a save that won’t exist. Most mods will have a recommendation of whether or not you need a new game in order to start using a mod, and a good rule of thumb is: if it needs a new game to start, it will need a new game to remove it as well.

I highly recommend getting the Mod Updater, which you can find the link to on smapi.io, which is where I get most of my mods. They tell you if a mod is working, broken, or if you can use another mod in place of one that is broken. Also, the Mod Updater lets you make sure you get any fixes to mods, which helps cut down on a lot of issues.

If you do run into any bugs with a mod, I do recommend checking the mod page and seeing if there is a fix. Hobby mod authors are almost always releasing fixes or unofficial updates, so chances are someone may have solved the issue, of found out how you can solve it for yourself.

Finally (sorry this is so long!), I will issue one warning that is based on my personal preference and experience, so please disregard this if you feel differently: while I like the expansion mods from time to time, any mods that add in a new area tend to make me spend much less time in the original areas of the valley. This has often led to me not feeling like I am playing Stardew, and Stardew is a game that I am usually playing because I want to play Stardew, as opposed to playing it to pass the time of passively enjoy. If you play for a similar reason, then I would stick to mods that add new stuff to the existing valley, rather than adding new areas outside of it. There are plenty of both, so you won’t be limited either way. But again, that is my preference, just wanted to share because I have heard similar feelings from other modded players.

I was in NYC for Pride the other year and got a sample of a cannabis drink made by a new-at-the-time company Cycling Frog. Flavor is good for a seltzer type drink, and the inebriation level is tailored to be about equal to 1-2 alcoholic beverages, which makes it easy to dose. We would need to expand the cropland growing food for humans, yes. But there is a lot of cropland currently growing types of corn and hay that we as humans can’t eat, just so we can feed animals and get a less than 20% return on calories from the ‘food’ we get when we eat animal muscle and organs.

Which is why our total crop land use would go down if we didn’t eat animals: we need less space to grow calories and nutrients for us that we do to feed the animals we eat. So much gets wasted with the current process that it is unsustainable, and we need to start shifting this now to avoid running into severe land and water deficiencies with the changing climate.

Or we can use it as compost, which we should be moving towards producing and using instead of manure as fertilizer for a lot of our agriculture. That way it doesn’t go to waste even if it does get ‘thrown out’.

And I do occasionally. Certain live albums and more niche stuff can be hard to find, and one hit wonders can be tricky depending on the genre and time the song is from. The song I’m Blue by Eiffel 65 is only available in a longer club mix and not the radio edit, for example.

I will say that, in my experience, it has a slightly larger selection than Spotify for classic stuff and different versions of the same song (covers, remakes, remixes, etc). For example, my husband was very excited that they had the whole readout of How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Boris Karloff (in two parts, but still) because they used to play it on certain radio stations every year around Christmas. On Spotify I was only ever able to find the same version of the song from several different albums of Christmas mixes.

I get the reaction though lol. That was my reaction too when a friend of mine recommended it. But I tried it and it is actually really nice, and the price hasn’t gone up in the years I have had it.

I pay about that already (~$14 a month), but for Napster, which afaik gives the biggest cut of any streaming service to artists. They also have really good custom playlist management, I never get intrusive popups or emails, and premium means no ads, even with hours of listening. I switched after the Joe Rogan thing happened with Spotify and never looked back honestly.

Interesting. I have not had any issues using their engine even with the issue with Bing’s API, but you are correct that they use Bing’s index. Given that there are only four indexes to choose from, that isn’t too surprising.

I actually switched to them when I saw that DuckDuckGo was about to start providing ‘AI assisted results’. I wanted to ensure I was using an engine that actually respected my privacy and didn’t harvest my data for slop.

Anecdotally, I can confirm that the results I get from SwissCows are very different and usually better than the ones I got from DDG. So I wonder how much of Bing’s API they use.

Disturbed’s cover of Sound of Silence is not only awful, it is an antithesis of the meaning of the song. Anyone who likes that version better than S&G’s arguably doesn’t understand the point of the song, and the fact that everyone holds it up as the gold standard of “covers better than the original” is even worse.

A close second is Postmodern Jukebox and their horrendous tendencies to take tempos to an opposite extreme instead of finding more meaningful ways of changing the genre of a song. I like some of their stuff, but the number of people who love their cover of Welcome to the Jungle is mind-boggling to me.

There are plenty of songs that I prefer the cover of to the original (Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’), or ones that just give the original a modern coat of paint without changing much else (Smash Mouth’s ‘I’m a Believer’), but these songs in particular are just awful imo.

No, they gave a reason and that reason isn’t covered under their policy, so she should still be covered.

If they let her go without a reason, then she would have to prove discrimination. But if they say “You violated our social media policy” and refuse to show how, and she can prove that nothing she did was on violation of the policy as written, then that is a clear case of unlawful termination.

Oh I will be having that conversation in a few days. I am taking a lesson from my therapist and letting myself rest from the hurt and decide what kind of resolution I want. I have a history of crumbling when I get pushback for standing up for myself, so giving myself time to sit with the feeling for a couple of days helps my brain realize that what she did was actually bad, and not just me overreacting.
