Well, i haven’t neen much of a gamer for years (got too adicted to WoW), but just started again this year. I am amazed by Skyrim, and am now modding it up.

I also just got Cyberpunk 2077, and will get into it soon.

It’s configured to run at the native resolution of the device, and looks good, but I’m not sure it is really at 4k.

Skyrim performs flawlessly, but Baldur’s Gate gets sbout 15 fps at this rez, so I have to lower the graphics setting. I’m nesr endgame, so there is a lot of city animation.

I can’t speak on multiplayer experiences, but i have several emulators set up on my OLED deck. GameCube, N64, switch, ps2. They work well, and i have a 3DO pro2 i use while it’s docked to my 4k tv, sound through a surround sound bar with woofer - amazing sound. I mostly run skyrim and Balder’s Gate 3 at the moment, but i enjoyed BotW and my son likes sonic.

Yep, it’s that easy. I have it on my pixel 2xl, degoogled and it’s still usable {android 14)

I’m late to the comment board, but I had to say something. I was amazed when one day my broken Balders’ Gate III P22 install suddenly not only worked, but worked with Vulkan. Until now, I figured it was an improvement to the Proton-GE or Experimental that came down around that time. Anyway, when I loaded my game (in the underdark) on my OLED, I was shocked at the improvement.

Not only was the framerate closer to 40+ vs 28-30, but it was vibrant. The resolution appeared to be better, too. It was gratifying to see it looked better than on my ancient Lenovo gaming laptop (circa 2016), which, to my surprise, handled it quite well considering the age of the NVidia card.

At least Chromecast for TV basically does this. I can search for something and it will tell me all the ways I can watch for any installed app even unsubscribed.

Still, the issue of paying multiple monthly fees to see what you want is ludicrous. It’s as if the media companies maliciously complied with consumers’ desire to pick and choose what they watch rather than pay $200 a month for 1000 stations they don’t watch.

Now, you have to pay $200 to get all the services that have what you want to watch - and you still have to sift through the drek.

Well, I just ripped a few of my old DVDs with handbrake, and I upscaled by setting the resolution to 720p and ensuring the “upscale” cjljeckbox is ticked.

Tovmy eye, it looks pretty good on my 55" 1080p TV, and I noticed in my voddeo player it scaled to my display size appropriately. If I imply ripped it, the video would have a hugee black box around it ony high red display.

I’d say using handbrake is fairly effective once you get it off the disk, for which I used a rip to mkv app in Linux.

Well, lookingvatvthe advertisements, interviews with the producers, and articles by people who saw it, I’m not convinced.

I agree that if it is already AAC, it should not be changed as it has the highest fidelity and best compression.

While AC-3 is not the best, it and AC-4 are the only formats i know that can encode TrueHD and Atmos metadata, so that should be kept it it is there.

Any transcode will lose fidelity unless the target codec is lossless, and I don’t think AAC has a lossless mode.

Why is AC-3 bad? It’s pretty much compatible with everything, holds Dolby Digital and atmos. Especially if the source is already encoded in AC-3, would it be wise to re-encode it?

I have found a library that had equipment to transfer to DVD, however if the tape has copy protection it won’t work. I’ll find out. Plus, I can buy a DVD version - I found it in searches - but I already own this and don’t want to buy it again.

I went the easy route and bought synology, set up a raid 6, and it saved me within 1 year.

Raid 6 spreads data wide enough to survive 2 concurrent drive failures. I had one drive fail enough to degrade the raid, and while I was awaiting a replacement (warrenty replacememt), a second drive started to fail. I bought a replacement for that, inserted it, then got the first replacement and inserted that. No losses, and I now have a drive in stock waiting for the next failure. It’s been at least 5 years without failure, so I am due.

Schedule an integrity check once a quarter or month to protect against bit rot. The danger with bit rot is you won’t know you have it until drives fail. If integrity is compromised, the shit hits the fan when you are syncing up the new drive, the system cannot recover, and you lose everything. That is when you start over with your verified backup. If that’s bad, goodbye data.
