Man, if only HIDIVE didn’t just up and leave every region other than NA. Oh well 🏴☠️

I’m glad we get to see adult Kumiko continuing the legacy
I’d be 100% down for a spin off about this
I need more Kumiko
Aaaaaaaaaaaaa!! They did it! I’m so happy!
The grown-up versions of the characters are so unbelievably pretty, it’s insane.
Very happy they didn’t skip the music this episode!
Kumiko finally being comfortable to share Asuka’s piece was a great moment.
It was also fun to see Kumiko using Taki’s mannerisms as the advisor haha. Nice nod.
This season was amazing. The whole anime was amazing. It’s KyoAni at their absolute best. While it’s not the best of all the other entries, it certainly stands on its own. My main criticism of this season is the lack of actual music playing. We couldn’t really grow along with the band like we did in S1 and 2.
As far as I’m aware, this is the end. I will dearly miss it, but I’m sure I will rewatch it many times, like I already have with the previous seasons. I don’t think there will be anything like Hibike anytime soon
Wait, it’s over?!
At time of writing, I thought so, since the main plot seemed to be done, but you made me check and apparently not? 3 volumes left apparently, but from what I can gather, I’m not sure there’s a ‘greater’ followup. Who knows if that’ll get adapted though. It really looked like they wanted to finish up here.
The later ones were alright but S 5 sucked ass
I think S5 was better than 3 and 4. 3 and 4 were a snorefest without Kurumi and 3 was rushing like mad. S5 finally properly followed up on what was established in S1 instead of just repeating the same old date a spirit formula.
Well, this won’t stop me from stockpiling Kurumi merch
Same
This ‘test’ for Kafka was kinda dumb. He clearly didn’t want to fight, but the director forced and provoked him to by trying to kill him and the director’s immediately like ‘guess he’s an animal after all’ once Kafka’s fighting back. Like, no shit Kafka’s fighting back and lost control. What’d you expect? For him to just sit back and let you take his life? Even if Kafka was still in full control of his Kaiju side, his behaviour would still make sense.
Enjoyable anime, but, for me, doesn’t really stand out among many other battle shounen. It’s fine. Kafka being an adult was nice, but he may as well have been a teenager imo. The OP song was fine, but the ED was awful. Bog standard western pop that didn’t fit the show at all imo.
Wild to think that it’s over after so long. This series wasn’t always good (particularly season 3 and 4), but this was an alright final season.
I feel like some interesting concepts haven’t been fully explored and loose ends not being fully tied up. For example, the invertion of the Spirits kinda ended up being a nothingburger, same with Tohka being a Pure Spirit.
Kurumi’s goal was kinda left out at the end and we weren’t really shown a proper conclusion for it imo. Sure, Mio died, but not as an act of revenge. I would’ve liked to see Kurumi coming to terms with it all. Seeing Kurumi at the end though, enjoying the presence of cats was cute.
Same with Artemisia. Supposedly brainwashed, but that was all. No further info on what happened afterwards with her.
I also would’ve liked to see what happened to the world now that, assumedly, Spirits are no longer a problem.
The whole Isaac Westcott thing was a little bit meh as well. He was more of a nuisance getting in the way of the actually interesting stuff than a good additional villain.
While this season was okay at best, there were a lot of interesting and good ideas here, even if, imo, they didn’t come to fruition properly. Unlike season 3 and 4, this season remained competent when Kurumi wasn’t directly involved. The OST also still is one of the best things about this anime. Some really solid themes with great arrangements with an awesome throwback to the 1st season’s OP at the end. The OP and ED were amazing too, despite being a little spoilery at first. There were some great heartfelt moments this season as well.
I don’t think I can give this season more than a 6.5/10, but the anime as a whole would probably be a 7.5/10 (which may or may not be skewed by nostalgia for season 1 and 2).
Haha, not how I thought people were going to think of me. But yeah, it’s not good. Efforts are getting wasted into a 2nd season. I’d be lying if I said that I’m not a little curious about how they’re gonna try to recover though (assuming they are at least trying)
Lmao, they really just retconned the entire anime. What even was the point? If you’re gonna do this, at least make the previous stuff worthwhile. It’s not like what we’ve seen this season will inform much of the newly announced 2nd season, since they skipped everything important.
This anime was bad. Really bad
This season was alright. I don’t think it was the same quality as the previous seasons.
Good anime, meh ending. I would’ve liked to see more of Kano’s rekindling with her mum and Mero, especially her mum.
Damn, glad to see Kumiko having the guts to do the audition blind, despite knowing that she’d probably win if it wasn’t. It’s sad that Kumiko didn’t win, but it is what it is. Poor Kanade as well…
I actually preferred Kumiko’s blind audition. Imo, it had more feel to it, which tbf, might not necessarily be desired in a competition like this.
Whyyy though. Why does this get a new season immediately but way better anime don’t?
The new season is pretty good relative to the OG, but nothing can match the OP and ED music of the original.
Agreed, especially the OP. The new one can’t match the old OST either for me. Kevin writes some gorgeous stuff, but the old one fit better imo.
That prince was one-dimensional for an OP. His haranguing the witch got old quick.
That’s the least bad thing about the show imo haha, but yes.
Not everything is finished yet, but:
The season itself was fine overall. No large standout like last season with Frieren and Apothecary Diaries.
Might still pickup:
Ended up watching it after all… This episode once again makes it clear that this anime skipped a fuckton. Everything important happened offscreen and stuff didn’t make sense because there was no setup. It’s like this anime is produced by shippers who only care about seeing the ship sail.
How nice of Leonora to give the missing princess a fortress with servants and luxury. She didn’t seem all too distressed at all. She was also found pretty much immediately.
Also, what was up with that amber castle thing? Previous ep it was said Leonora was the one who encased it in amber, but why does it make her more powerful?
I’m not sure I want to watch this episode. It’s been so disappointing the last 4-5 eps.
It was certainly quick, and 2 seasons would definitely have been better, but it didn’t feel rushed to me.
