  • Sadly he is likely permanently tarnished. It’s important to note in this case 3 of the people involved in the event alleged filed suit civilly before the criminal trial even began. That’s important because people generally wait for the outcome of a criminal case before suing so that they don’t have to reprove facts. This leads me to believe they all knew the allegations were false and were trying to collect before that was shown in court. As far as the Anthony Rapp case went I am unsure what happened there to it was almost immediately dismissed but they were 40 year old allegations. The was another case where a man claimed he was groped by spacey in a bar but they were dropped almost immediately by the DA.

  • Ok so that’s where your wrong. We have a unique and very complex and balanced first world prison system.

You see in America we use public prisons in a unique way. They are a business model. In a public prison the Administration uses service providers to provide things like Telecom for friends and family, JMS(Jail Management System) for managing the facility and its inmates, Commissary for supplying inmates with products, and many other services. In addition as other people have stated several facilities charge rent this is almost universally a county correctional facilities thing where inmates tend to be people awaiting trial, awaiting sentencing, on temporary hold, or inmate serving less than a year. There are some county mega facilities though now that are longer term and also charge rent. Now lets explore how this ends up working. A telecom service such as GTL(Global Tel Link which is the largest provider in the US) will charge friends and family up to 30 dollars (highly dependent on the facility and the agreement with the administration and the state) to setup an account with all fees and make a 15 minute call. 90+% of that goes to whats called a commission. This commission is paid back to the facility for use of the service. If that sounds like a bribe to you YOUR WRONG you see this is perfectly legal in most states and not a bribe of a public official at all!(very recent legislation has change this in some states (3) but it is still very legal in most states). There are many many ways to bribe officials especially sheriffs but this is the most overt one. Remember its not the inmate who generally pays this as they have no real means of income though some opputunities (we will get to that) their friend and family deposit it into their account and generally that account is tied in with their commissary account and that’s generally tied in to the JMS. The commissary business model works identically to the telecom model and these companies tend to offer a JMS essentially for free for obvious reasons. Many inmate especially in long term facilities just tell friends and family to not contact them in lieu of going broke. Thus disconnecting them from their friends and family completely which has a heavy impact on recidivism. Now the facility may have work opportunities as well and isn’t it ever so convenient that the amount you can get paid from those work opportunities happens to be JUST about as much as the facilities housing fee. Funny thing to if you don’t pay the housing fee while your in the facility the facility will take it out of you commissary account. So you either work as a slave or they take you ability to in the case of a female facility critically necessary health products(though most inmates resort to toilet paper). You see how wrong your were? This is a complex and very well thought out eldritch horror. The machinations of which truly boggle the mind. This isn’t even the horrid private prison. This is a publicly funded facility. I could share the endless horrors of the American prison system but its a special hell of which I wish to open no ones eyes to fully.

  • well I mean it was disastrous but I am not sure the blame lies entirely on Trump. His response to COVID could have been different thats for sure. He could of not disbanded the agencies in charge of managing and planning for such an event…It might have been better to have far more competent people in charge than say his son-in-law…Ya know it really would have been beneficial if he had not used it as an opportunity to enrich his donors…on that note it would have been nice if he had headed the simple warnings given to him by security professionals on how to implement distribution…He probably should not have given out PPP to large corporation with plenty of capital before he gave it to small businesses…man he could have done more to convince his following to get vaccinated and given a more unilateral messaging to the public in general regarding following mandates. Ya know what fuck that guy.

  • This guy gets it. Gun Control has only been passed in this country in response to minority gun ownership. They have been poorly conceived at make no sense from the get go. It is near impossible to control inexpensive technologies and banning those technologies is a waste of time. We talk about gun violence but that’s the wrong conversation. We should be talking about violence and why that occurs. The gun is just a multiplier of violence not the actual problem.

Guns just as or much more dangerous were readily available by mail order in the 70’s and back so why weren’t these problems more profound then? For one at the end of the 70’s we did away with our entire mental health system and never replaced it. People seeking mental healthcare have few options in this country even with insurance as insurers have figured out if the neglect there provider lists then they pay less overall with zero ramifications and little to no loss in sales from large employer plans (who don’t prioritize the issue).

Mental Health education and health education overall is severely lacking in this country most people don’t know the signs to identify a mental health problem or how to handle it even professionals did you know that males most commonly display signs of schizophrenia at 18 but women most often start to display signs at 27?

Poverty and Economic disparity though likely play the largest role. This country is quickly devolving due to rampant poverty and resources are flooding to the top with no stop in sight. I really tie both economic poverty and lack of access to reasonable education as both impact the country in relatively the same way. The major contributing factors are market monopolies, regulatory capture, over representation of corporations in our electoral system, and a broken electoral system. I won’t go through all of these and there are absolutely more.

The good news is that the two things that would do the most to alleviate these things are possible. A move to ranked choice voting and a push for a single payer system for healthcare. The path may seem indirect but a ranked choice system would resolve the all or nothingness of our system and make it harder for corporations to fully corrupt our electoral process as they would need to do far more than simply push for a single side. a single payer system would eliminate insurers that have an incentive to avoid paying for mental healthcare and sever health and well-being as a reason to be a wage slave.
