Poor Aunte Fa, we barely knew her
Long term computer programmer, making my own library. American based. Far left politically. Promotes use of paper ballots. Follows news about environmental collapse, political corruption in my country, human rights, science and tech.
Poor Aunte Fa, we barely knew her
Shows the further decline of social ties in local communities. A trend that is over two generations old. If one looks back at the same group in the 1970s their social contacts will seem huge .
Addition thoughts: this trend is also what has caused the collapse of local politics in the USA, and broke grassroots. It was a necessary precursor to the rise of the oligarchs.
And one can also see this reflected in fewer churches, bars, places of prostitution, pool halls, social clubs etc etc
Seems like the same political forces that compelled Australia, Canada and the Uk to recognize Palestine. And what compelled Sanders to recognize the genocide .
In all cases: move that still prioritizes Israel, is a powerless gesture, still supports the genocide, whose sole purpose is to provide political cover.
Seems like more price rises at the grocery store
It seems like beyond the pale for me.
I’m sure I’m not unique in that sentiment.
I have seen several cartoons that copied this later. But this is the first time I saw the original
10% want the world to burn. 10% don’t want it to burn. The others don’t have strong feelings and can be convinced either way.
No, because the definition of a hero involves not being part of the cynical political class.
Heroes must emerge from the working class
Tactics and strategy only works for those willing to use power when they can.
This is enabling those who they purport to be against
I’m pretty sure my subconscious meant to type it, for unknown reasons. And I’m not going to change it. Maybe I want the internet to go out with style
I was thinking something else, like
The Boys Showrunner, Eric Kripke, says the superhero ultimately exists to protect the status quo, to keep things as they are or once were during more nostalgic times, while the supervillain seeks change. A superhero is pro-establishment, working to uphold the system, and viewers can be trained to believe some exceptional being will fix everything.
The earlier superhero movies made in the USA helped support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and there were strategies and meetings to deliberately do just that.
I think the later Marvel movies drifted away from typecasting the villains and made the plots less American centric. But it did not loose the parallels to the popular movies in Germany made in the late 30’s.
Solar flairs are the sword of Damocles hanging over all the internet. It’s only a matter of when the next https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrington_Event
It may be a few decades away, or next week. But everyone will get a notice of two days that all online data and communications will be destroyed , or not available at all, for at least a year
Spam through PRs (and presumably also Issues)?
Why stop at dating? I just realized other possibilities, like “we have trying to reach you about your car insurance”
I have been thinking the superhero movies were having many fascist themes themselves. And their popularity was helped by a growing authoritarian movement in the USA.
The actual comics do not have many of the above issues, the movies reinforced certain themes.
I say this as someone who liked the comic books for many decades
It’s heavy with American liberals and European centralists - they are similar. Both groups lean more rightward each year
There are many issues he will not touch: not least ballot counting problems. And he hesitates to suggest real solutions to many issues other than vote blue no matter who.
Basically he has made his career being a centralist’s idea of a left wing politician.
Just wait until the fridges keep inventory by inside cam and offers services like shopping lists and targeted ads.
“Hi, I noticed your ice cream will be gone tonight, would you like to have some delivered before?. There is a coupon if you use Kroger’s ”
The election boards in most states do not oversee the election machine inner workings, or understand them. There is a disconnect between what people imagine they do and their passiveness.
Some boards might have agents who are sworn to secrecy about a set of software and hardware. But given the layers of trade secrets it’s difficult to know what these people understand.
There is no chain of oversight that is publicly known that would satisfy the average tech person
I think mass hunger is part of the 2025 playbook. Guessing at that, but would not surprise me.
The thing is, it may be a horrible idea to risk so much for something you so strongly want to do.
Most people don’t.
But if you don’t, you will regret it forever. This is the fate of most people
