Alright WcDonald’s fans, here is the official press release with the details. Below are some of the tasty nuggets of information:

  • Participating McDonald’s locations across the globe will sell “WcDonald’s” themed products including an exclusive “WcDonald’s Sauce”, “WcNuggets”, and manga-inspired packaging
  • There will be a short, serialized manga released as part of the event. Scan codes on the packaging to read new installments as they come out
  • Four independent, animated shorts will be made by Studio Pierrot. Each one will be a different genre: Action, Romance, Mecha, and Fantasy. They are summarized thusly:
  1. The Race to WcDonald’s (drops Feb. 26): A rivalry strong enough to withstand the test of time as our two heroes embark on an epic race to WcDonald’s.
  2. Love from Across the Booth (drops March 4): Our two protagonists discover the WcDonald’s Sauce and WcNuggets aren’t the only perfect pairing.
  3. WcNuggets Space Frontier 3000 (drops March 11): A team of WcDonald’s pilots must protect the last WcNugget against an ominous force.
  4. The Wisdom of the Sauce (drops March 18): Three women are transported to a distant land to unravel the mystery surrounding the elusive sauce before it’s gone forever.

I can’t imagine that it would be that easy to do so because of all the prior art that exists before this promotion. However, I love this idea. It reminds me of the theory that the reason Disney named the 2013 movie “Frozen” was so that if you search “Walt Disney Frozen” you won’t get a bunch of stories about how Walt Disney is cryogenically frozen.

I don’t know, it just seemed like something scummy enough for a megacorp to do. I am not promoting like, conspiracy theories or anything. Just a thought I had when I saw they actually called it “WcDonald’s.”
